Yosef Shai "Yossi" Benayoun is an Israeli professional footballer who plays for Israeli club Maccabi Haifa. He has previously played for Hapoel Be'er Sheva, Maccabi Haifa, Racing de Santander in Spain, two spells with West Ham United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. Benayoun plays as an attacking midfielder, often occupying the space just behind the striker. He was born in Dimona, of Moroccan Jewish origin. In Israel, he is sometimes nicknamed "The Diamond from Dimona". He is also the captain of the Israeli national team.
