Description
Lisa Carrington, MNZM is a New Zealand flatwater canoer. She won gold in the Women's K-1 200 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics, as well as gold in the same event at the 2011 Canoe Sprint World Championships.
Born in Tauranga, Carrington was raised in Ohope Beach, a satellite town of Whakatane in the eastern Bay of Plenty, and is of Te Aitanga-a-M?haki and Ng?ti Porou descent. She attended Whakatane High School, and Massey University in Albany. She is coached by Gordon Walker.
Carrington was chosen New Zealand's M?ori Sportsperson of the year in November 2012, and senior M?ori sportswoman of the year. Carrington was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2013 New Year's Honours, for her services to kayaking.
