Tom McDonald is a professional Australian rules football player at the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League. He was recruited by the club in the 2010 National Draft, with pick number 53. McDonald made his debut in round 23, 2011, against Gold Coast at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. McDonald received a 2012 AFL Rising Star nomination for his game against Greater Western Sydney in round 13, 2012.
After a successful second year, McDonald finished third in Melbourne's best and fairest in 2012, placing behind Jack Grimes and winner Nathan Jones.
During the 2014 AFL Season, in his 60th game, McDonald brought up the milestone of kicking his first and second career goals back to back. Both were setup in near identical ways, with McDonald marking inside 50 from a pass from teammate Dean Kent.
