Ostapenko has won six singles and seven doubles titles on the ITF tour in her career. On 6 October 2014, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 329. On 19 August 2013, she peaked at world number 387 in the doubles rankings.
Ostapenko won the singles event at the junior 2014 Wimbledon Championships and was ranked the number 2 junior tennis player in the world in September 2014.
Ostapenko made her WTA tour main draw debut at the 2014 Tashkent Open. Having been awarded a wild card, she played Israeli Shahar Pe'er in the first round, defeating the former world number 11 in straight sets. In round two, she lost to Russian Ksenia Pervak.
