Sidney Carroll Miller, known as Sid Miller, is a politician from Stephenville in Erath County, Texas. A former member of the Texas House of Representatives, he held the District 59 seat in Central Texas from 2001 to 2013. The conservative Miller was unseated in the Republican runoff election on July 31, 2012 by osteopathic physician J. D. Sheffield of Gatesville in Coryell County. Miller is the Republican nominee in the November 4, 2014 general election for the position of Texas Commissioner of Agriculture. The post is being vacated by Todd Staples, who instead ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in the March 4 primary election. In the runoff election on May 27, Miller defeated a former House colleague, Tommy Merritt of Longview, 362,573 votes to 320,434. In the primary, Miller had also led Merritt, 411,560 to 249,440.
