Wesley Barbasa So is a Filipino chess grandmaster. So is a former chess prodigy and the eighth youngest grandmaster on record. In October 2008, So became the youngest player to break the 2600 Elo barrier, breaking the record previously held by Magnus Carlsen. In early 2013, So broke into the "elite" with a 2701 FIDE rating after winning the Reykjavik Open. His highest FIDE world ranking is number 12, reached in August 2014. So won Group C in the 2009 edition of the Corus Chess Tournament and is a three-time Philippines Chess Champion. He is currently seeking a transfer to the United States Chess Federation.
