Description
Ted St. Martin is a professional basketball free throw shooter and teacher. He holds the world record for consecutive free throws made, 5,221, made on April 28, 1996 while giving a shooting clinic to students. The 5,221 in a row took 7 hours and 20 minutes.
According to The Guinness Book Of World Records, St. Martin has held the world record for consecutive free throws since 1972, when he made 200 consecutive free throws. After achieving this world record, basketball manufacturer AMF Voit hired him to go on the road promoting their company. St. Martin attended sporting goods shows, half-times of NBA games, and other events. During these shows, he broke his own world record 15 times.
Despite his talent, St. Martin never played basketball in college or in the National Basketball Association.
St. Martin also holds the world record in shots made, made in 8 minutes from thirty feet from the basket. This record was made in February 1974. This was before there was three-point shooting in basketball.
St. Martin and his wife Barbara have toured the United States and Canada for over 30 years doing all kinds of free throw shooting demonstrations.
