Description
Dane van Niekerk is a South African One Day International and Twenty20 International cricketer. She was born in Pretoria, educated at Centurion High School and, after playing for Highveld Women and Northerns Women, was selected as part of the South Africa national women's cricket team for the 2009 Women's Cricket World Cup in Australia. A leg spinner, she made her debut at the tournament at only 15 years of age against the West Indies at Newcastle and on her second match took 3 for 11 as South Africa beat Sri Lanka in Sydney to claim 7th place in the tournament. van Niekerk also represented South Africa at the 2012 ICC Women's World Twenty20 and succeeded in making her highest score of 34* against New Zealand during the pool stages.
On 7 January 2013 Dane van Niekerk bowled her first five-wicket haul in One Day Internationals against the West Indies. During this she bowled a hat-trick, dismissing 3 tailenders. She was part of South Africa's 2013 Women's Cricket World Cup squad, where she played 7 matches. On the match against Pakistan she made her highest ODI score of 55* runs.
