Description
Andre Dwayne Russell is a Jamaican cricketer. Russell plays for the Jamaica national cricket team as well as the West Indies in Test cricket. A fast bowling all rounder, Russell made his Test cricket debut against Sri Lanka in November 2010.
In the season 2010 he played at Barnards Green Cricket Club, Worcestershire, England, helping them secure promotion into Birmingham League cricket. He took 39 wickets at an average of 10.15. He also led the averages with his batting, hitting 799 runs in 11 innings at an average of 99.88.
He made his ODI debut in the 2011 Cricket World Cup match against Ireland at Mohali. He scored only 3, and was bowled by John Mooney, as his side went through a lower-order collapse to be bowled out for 275 from 267/6. However, he impressed with the ball, taking 1/37 from his 10 overs and had bowled set Ed Joyce, and breaking a 91-run partnership with Gary Wilson to halt the fluent Irish run-chase. That proved to be the turning-point and West Indies won by 44 runs. He also took 2/46 against India in the 2011 Cricket World Cup at Chennai.
After a poor home series against Pakistan, he made his mark against in the ODI series against India.
