Description
Reece Alan Young in Auckland. He is a New Zealand cricketer who plays for the Canterbury Wizards. He is not related to Bryan Young. Young was selected in August 2008 for the New Zealand 'A' tour of Australia and India. On 21 January 2009, Young scored his maiden one-day century for Auckland against Northern Districts.
On 21 August 2009 Young was called into the New Zealand Cricket team to keep wicket in the test match against Sri Lanka, when both test keeper Brendan McCullum and backup Jesse Ryder were struck down with a stomach bug.
Before Reece Young got called up for New Zealand, Young carried out a stint as a professional in the UK. Young joined Heyside Cricket Club, Oldham, Greater Manchester for just one season in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League, where he proved he was a dab hand with the bat and also a superb keeper. Not only did he play for the 1st XI but also provided training for the Under 17's, Under 15's, Under 13's, Under 11's and Under 9's as well as specialising with the young wicket keepers. Young was an asset to the club during his time there.
Young picked up his first Test Cap for New Zealand in January 2011 vs Pakistan on his 100th first class match.
