Description
Pedro Pablo Morales, Jr. is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, world champion, and former world record-holder. He attended Bellarmine College Preparatory, in San Jose, California under the supervision of Larry Rogers. He won a relay gold and two silver medals swimming butterfly at the 1984 Summer Olympics and set the world record in the 100-meter butterfly at the Olympic Trials that year as well as setting relay records with teammates Rick Carey, Steve Lundquist and Rowdy Gaines.
However, in 1988 on the heels of a record 11th NCAA individual championship at Stanford University, he failed to qualify for the 1988 Summer Olympics. After briefly retiring from the sport to pursue a law degree at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, he returned to the Olympics in 1992 as the team captain and captured gold in the 100-meter butterfly, becoming the oldest swimmer to win an Olympic medal. He is currently the head women's swimming and diving coach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. [More at Wikipedia]
