Description
Jean Boiteux was a French swimmer and Olympic champion. He was born in Marseilles. His mother, Bienna P�l�gry, swam for France at the 1924 and 1924 Olympics.
He competed at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, where he received a gold medal in 400 m freestyle. He received a bronze medal in 4 x 200 m freestyle relay with the French team. Boiteux was the first person from France to win an Olympic gold medal in Swimming. The Jean-Boiteux Grand Prix swimming meet in Bordeaux, was started by him in 1973 and is now name after him.
