Description
Arthur Lincoln Quirk Jr. is a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played two seasons for the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Senators, the team now known as the Texas Rangers.
Quirk attended Dartmouth College where he led the college pitching stats in the 1958 and 1959 seasons.
In 1958, Quirk made a memorable debut at the Cape Cod league in Massachusetts. He struck out 17 and batted 3-for-5 as he led Orleans to a victory over Dennis. Two weeks later, he threw a three-hitter and struck out 15. His season record was 9 wins, 0 losses with a 1.12 ERA and a league-leading .475 batting average. Quirk was inducted into the Cape Cod Baseball Hall of Fame on 11/14/09.
In 1962, he was featured in a Sports Illustrated article while pitching for the Baltimore Orioles. [More at Wikipedia]
