Description
Andrew R. L. Cayton is a scholar of early American history and Distinguished Professor of History at Miami University in Ohio. He was born at Cincinnati in 1954.
Cayton received his B.A. from the University of Virginia, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Brown in 1981, working under the direction of Gordon Wood. He has been called the "premier modern historian of the American Midwest" and is also well known for his work on British North America. In 2011-2012, he served as President for the Society of Historians of the Early American Republic. Cayton is currently working with Fred Anderson on Imperial America, 1672-1764, a volume in the The Oxford History of the United States series. He also regularly reviews books for the New York Times.
