Richard Wayne Merritt is an author and attorney. Merritt has also spoken at universities, law schools and other civic organizations about topics ranging from issues on gay and lesbian equality to fundamentalism. He has been a public figure since he was featured on the cover of the New York Times Magazine on June 28, 1998, in an article by Jennifer Egan entitled "Uniforms In The Closet: The Shadow Life Of A Gay Marine". He now resides in Manhattan.
